After qualifying from Cambridge University Medical school in 2002, Amy pursued her surgical aspirations, undertaking a wide variety of surgical training posts from London, via Australia, Dorset and back to East Anglia for senior surgical training. During the course of training in different surgical specialties, Amy was drawn towards breast surgery due to the unique combination of rapid research based treatment (both surgical and oncological), the creative side offered by reconstruction, and the powerful feeling of being able to give something back during her patients' most difficult times.

Amy completed senior surgical training as an Oncoplastic breast fellow prior to her consultant post, achieving experience and independent practice in both reconstructive and aesthetic work.  She is experienced in fat transfer techniques, using this method routinely to improve breast contour after reconstruction and lumpectomy for cancer.  Amy will bring this experience to the aesthetic side with fat transfer for modest breast enhancement.

Additionally experienced in breast ultrasound, Amy completed the Bristol Breast Ultrasound course and makes frequent use of ultrasound in her day to day practice.

Her particular interest is the reconstructive and aesthetic side of cancer surgery: Amy introduced an independent reconstructive service to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after commencing her consultant post in 2013.  As well as a good cancer outcome, she believes that the visible outcome is also important.  Whether that is through reshaping the breast after a lumpectomy, or performing reconstructive surgery after mastectomy, the aim is to come through cancer treatment with the aesthetic outcome that the patient aspires to.

Amy maintains a database of all implant surgery, and all implants are submitted to the central Implant Registry for reassurance to patients about safety and transparency.  She uses Motiva silicone implants, known for their natural feel and shape, and low rates of capsular contracture.

An audit of the outcomes of reconstructive surgery reveals excellent outcomes: an extremely low rate of implant loss (<2%), return to theatre (<2%), and longer term revision rate.  Furthermore, a study of patient focused outcomes showed excellent satisfaction with their surgery.

While establishing the reconstructive service, Amy recognised the demand for breast reduction surgery.  Breast reduction can be literally a life changing operation, and is one of the most satisfying for both patient and surgeon.  One of her ‘preferred’ operations is a therapeutic mammoplasty: where cancer is removed at the same time as performing a breast reduction.  Amy is delighted to be able to now be in the position to offer breast reduction surgery as a private operation.  For patients who do not need to reduce volume but simply need an uplift, a mastopexy can restore a more youthful silhouette.  Depending on the patients tissues, an uplift can be combined with an implant to breast more volume and projection.

Amy also recognises that a well performed implant augmentation can deliver fantastic results: careful discussion of the patients wishes, examination of their natural tissues, and advice about the likely outcomes together results in a high level of patient satisfaction.  Implant surgery is not a simple life fix, and expectations should be realistic: Amy will give expert advice about implant size and shape, with the aim to produce a result that enhances the patients silhouette, whilst looking proportionate and natural.

No nonsense, kind and honest.
